San Antonio, Texas, September 10, 2021 – Knight Aerospace has been asked to present at the Health Cell 2021 State of the Industry. This respected event is a once-a-year opportunity for three select innovators from San Antonio to share their stories of pioneering work in front of a broad audience of regional and global leaders.

COL. (Ret.) Jay Johannigman, M.D., F.A.C.S., Chief Medical Officer at Knight Aerospace, will present at the event on October 5. As CMO, Dr. Johannigman oversees a multitude of the company’s technological advancements that allow quick conversion of military and NGO cargo aircraft into full-spectrum, “flying emergency rooms.” He is responsible for the implementation of the protocols and technology behind Knight’s self-contained units which safely transport highly contagious patients, such as those with COVID-19. Dr. Johannigman also supervises the ongoing development of leading-edge technology and R&D at Knight.

In addition to his roles at Knight, Dr. Johannigman served in the United States Air Force (USAF) for nearly four decades and continues to hold his rating as a flight surgeon. He served on seven deployments, including most recently to Afghanistan as a military trauma surgeon, and has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Military Health System Research Symposium.

“We are deeply honored to be invited to be a part of the Health Cell 2021 State of the Industry event,” said Bianca Rhodes, Knight Aerospace President and CEO. “We are proud to have Dr. Johannigman share his story of leadership and innovation that created our life-saving technology, the Aeromedical Bio-Containment Module (ABCM).”

The ABCM, first acquired by the Royal Canadian Air Force in 2020, is easily loaded onto cargo aircraft, interoperable on the C-2, C-5, C-130, C-17, C-295, C-27J, A400M, and others. To date, it has been a valuable platform, performing in two missions and over 10 sorties, moving 11 sick patients to safety.

The ABCM is now in full production and can be scaled to meet the needs of U.S. and global operators immediately. This module is the result of many years of research, development, and design in partnership with OEM aircraft manufacturers, military aircrew, and medical professionals.

Knight Aerospace leads the industry in the design, manufacture, and customization of medical modules, pallets, VIP transport systems, and more for cargo aircraft. These include a variety of quick-change, roll-on/roll-off products, like the Next Generation ATGL for military aircraft. Knight has delivered products to more than 34 countries since 1992.
