SAN ANTONIO, TX – AUGUST 29, 2022 – Knight Aerospace, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of air transportation products, is proud to announce the forthcoming delivery of a second Aeromedical Bio-Containment Evacuation System (ABES) to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) to enable its mission-critical operations.

The RCAF received its first ABES module in January 2021 and has used the unit for medical transfers of patients in support of Canadian provincial authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the evacuation of Canadian Armed Forces members from abroad. Since acquiring its first ABES, the RCAF has used the module to successfully complete more than two dozen missions including ten critical-care infectious patient missions. Missions have been flown using both CC-177 Globemaster and CC-130J Hercules aircraft.

Created by Knight Aerospace in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the ABES is a self- contained, hospital-caliber medical module that enables the safe transport and care of highly contagious or critically injured patients aboard transport aircraft.

“We are proud to support the RCAF with Knight’s life-saving technology and equipment,” said Knight Aerospace CEO Bianca Rhodes. “After years of research and development, consulting with the brightest in the industry, our modules feature maximum flexibility and the necessary protected medical environment to support the most critical and urgent of missions with maximum safety and efficiency.”

Knight supplied the first ABES to an RCAF aircraft at Kelly Field in San Antonio, TX. The ABES is outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment and offers a wide range of critical care capabilities, facilitating in-flight patient treatment, including emergency surgery. The ABES is the world’s first airworthy aeromedical modular system.

Knight Aerospace supplies equipment to major aircraft OEMs and military and commercial aircraft operators in more than 34 countries supporting over 16 aircraft types and their variants. As governments throughout the world better prepare, Knight anticipates growing global demand and is steadfast in its mission to continue to develop the new technology while fulfilling orders from other defense, public health, and NGOs worldwide.
